Hello friends of the Spanish Revolution, To celebrate the 70th Annniversary of the beginning of this special time in history, some postgraduate students from the Department of Political Science at Melbourne University gathered at Baretto's Cafe, Grattan St., on Wednesday 19th July 2006. The following motion was put to the gathering: "We honour those who were killed and wounded, their families, collectives, unions and descendants and all those who struggled and continue to do so for the cause of land and freedom." The motion was passed unanimously. The students then proposed a toast to those who, in 1936-39 demonstrated that a worker - and peasant - controlled society was possible. Most drank coffee whilst a minority drank water in honour of the Spanish peasants and working class who found coffee too bourgeouis. Please feel free to publish this announcement as you see fit. |
