"When the working class unites, there will be a lot of jobless labor leaders." Eugene Debs, 1905 speech
WW EDMONTON (Canada) ONLINE LIBRARY:
A WORKERS SELF EDUCATION READING LIST
This is a collection of online articles, documents, books, digital collections, online self-study courses, etc. that promote a workers understanding of the origins and nature of class struggle throughout humanity’s history and varied societies.
We leave it up to the reader/activist to use the information for their own self-development and to empower them against the ruling class ideologies that dominate our media and culture.
We present this material for your critical inquiry; we see it as a continuum of class struggle. The philosophy of class struggle embraces the works of anarchists, socialists and Marxists, as well as radical liberals. Class struggle continues, and the only way that the working class will free itself from its chains is through and understanding of the philosophy and history of our struggle.
The emancipation of the working class is the task of this class for itself, but that liberation can only come through education, agitation and organization, both in theory and practice. This library celebrates the great autodidactic traditions of the “Working Class Intellectual”
The self taught men and women who cared not for academic praise but popularized ideas amongst the masses.
This library was created for that purpose. As more materials become available online we will add them to the listings. This is not an exhaustive listing, though it is one of the most complete on the web, and we welcome suggestions for materials and links to include.
We have included links to distance education for labour courses as well some self-study courses. The materials here should help any student of labour organization, labour history, industrial relations, political and cultural studies, in either your formal full time work, part time study, or for your self pleasure.
The Wobbly Librarian.
Readers should find some of the material listed here interesting. The Edmonton fellow workers are to be congratulated. The Web page of the Edmonton General Members' Branch can be visited at http://edmonton.iww.ca/
