May 31st - Spirit of Eureka G20 arrestee benefit show!

Notice from the solidarity with G20 arrestees people

As you may know several dozen comrades continue to fight the charges brought against them by the Victorian Police in the aftermath of the G20 protests. However you felt about the activities of that day in 2006, it is important that we continue to demonstrate solidarity to those who have been unfairly targeted by the Police Association in their war against Christine Nixon. Furthermore, those involved in the case who continue to fight the charges recognise that by pushing for immediate custodial sentences the Prosecution hope to set a precedent for the sentencing of activists which will come to affect us all. If we don't fight this now, then next time it could be you or your friends who are being hung out to dry in the media, and viciously attacked through the legal system. Those who continue to fight to have the charges dropped do so with the awareness that this case is about much more than them, it is about asserting the right in all arena's to take direct action over the things which affect us all. However the courts are not organised to give hope to the poor - it is a costly business to be dragged through them, and in order to keep fighting we need to continue raising funds. The 12 men and 13 women who are contesting the charges in the County Court need your support!

Next weekend on the 31st of May there is a benefit fundraiser at the Lomond hotel in East Brunswick, 225 Nicholson street. Door charge is $5 unwaged or $10 waged, or $15 solidarity on the door. Whatever money we raise will go straight back into the legal defence fund, helping us to do things such as fund an appeal for Akin Sari, who is currently serving a 22 month prison sentence, as well as cover ongoing legal costs. It would be fantastic to see some familiar faces there, bring your friends, your families and your kids for a good old fashioned show of community support, and some fantastic live sets by the Lomond Hotel's finest locals
